La Cycas revoluta è l'unica delle cicadacee ad avere un rilevante interesse commerciale. Erroneamente intesa come palma nana (sago
palm in inglese) è una pianta delle gimnosperme. Le cycas sono piante molto antiche, hanno abitato il nostro pianeta fin dalle prime ere geologiche. Hanno una crescita molto lenta, a fronde sempreverdi, una cycas adulta può raggiungere i 4 o più metri di altezza, solo dopo centinaia di anni. Raramente il tronco ramifica. La fioritura è particolare, le piante non sono ermafrodite. Il fiore maschile è molto allungato; il fiore femminile ha invece forma arrotondata.

a gymnosperm plant. Cycas are very ancient plants, they have inhabited our planet since the earliest geological eras. They have a very slow
growth, with evergreen fronds, an adult cycas can reach 4 or more meters in height, only after hundreds of years. The trunk rarely branches.
Flowering is particular, the plants are not hermaphrodites. The male flower is very elongated; the female flower has a rounded shape.
